Server Setup

How to setup a Linux Server for sBorg:

Get a VPS with 512 MB to 4 GB ram, and 1~2 processor cores. Space and BW is upto you.

1. Get a subdomain from http://freedns.afraid.org/ or make one with your domain or request one from sBorg through support.
2. Point the subdomain to your server IP by adding a A entry (Important).
3. Add the subdomain as your host name in VPS control panel (optional).
4. Install Centos 5.x OR Centos 6.x operating system. (64 bit recommended).
5. Run a update on the VPS:

   yum -y update

6. Reboot VPS (important):

   shutdown -r 0

7. Install Virtualmin control panel:

   wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh
   sh ./install.sh

8. Skip this step if installing on Centos 6.x
   Install PHP 5.3.x (DO NOT COPY PASTE)

   rpm -ivh http://repo.webtatic.com/yum/centos/5/`uname -i`/webtatic-release-5-1.noarch.rpm
   yum --enablerepo=webtatic install php -y

9. If your server IP address is 123.45.67.89 then Login to Virtualmin control panel by going to https://123.45.67.89:10000/
10. Run post-install setup (top right). Choose settings as you need.
11. Open System Settings > Server Templates, Click on Custom under Apache, set PHP execution method as CGI-Wrapper.
12. Edit the Default Plan in System Settings > Account Plans and set your default plan to all unlimited.
13. Click on Create a Virtual Server (this will create ur account).
14. Enter Your subdomain that you created, password for your account, and preferred account user name, and create the account.
15. If everything goes OK, logout (bottom left) from root account.
16. Enter the username & password you entered while creating your new account and click Login
17. Click on Webmin Modules > File manager.
18. Upload and extract sBorg.zip (installer) inside public_html or make a “sborg” folder in public_html and extract there.
19. Go to http://sub.domain.com/install.php or http://sub.domain.com/sborg/install.php (depending on where you extracted your files) and click install once to setup your php.ini files and then enter your sBorg email and key.
20. Now Setup sBorg the way you like. Follow the sBorg Users Manual for more information.
21. For Centos 6.x, on sBorg setup page, set “progress bar rate” to 50 or 100 and “buffer size” to 8192 to avoid overloading. For Centos 5.x leave them as default.

sBorg quick setup for single users (without progress informations)
Get a VPS with 512 MB to 4 GB ram, and 1~2 processor cores. Space and Bandwidth is upto you.

1. Install/Load a fresh copy of Centos 5.x version (32 or 64 bit).
2. Login to your VPS via putty with user “root” and your root password.
3. Run a update on the VPS:

   yum -y update

4. Reboot VPS (important):

   shutdown -r 0

5. Download the sBorg server setup shell script:

   wget http://sborg.us/sh/sborg.sh

6. Run the shell script

   sh ./sborg.sh

7. If your server IP address is 123.45.67.89 then open the sBorg php installer in your browser
   http://123.45.67.89/sborg/install.php
8. Enter your email and key and click “install”.
9. Now Setup sBorg the way you like. Follow the sBorg Users Manual for more information.
